  • Overview

    The Dealer Training Manager is responsible for taking the lead in assisting the AVP of DTD in the creation, development, and the delivery of dealer educational programs to meet specific business needs as well as support the Canadian field team and their dealer base. As a Training Manager of the Dealer Training Team, this individual will take the lead to help ensure quality dealer training through course design, delivery and evaluation, training resource materials and learning reinforcement. Support the AVP in all roles and responsibilities including event planning, reporting, and team leadership.


    This role will support Western Canada.


    Training Content Development and Delivery (50%)

    • Take the lead in assisting the AVP in all phases of departmental development including training team members, sales and dealer training content and communication
    • Take the lead in the training efforts of field team members and ensuring consistent and quality dealership training meetings are delivered through effective and inspirational coaching
    • Work closely with RSMs, DRMs and GM Zone personnel to develop collaboration to ensure successful meetings/training in local markets
    • Assist in the development and delivery of training with a variety of training methodologies and job aids
    • Develop and deliver dealer training to meet business objectives (i e , consumer and commercial lease, non-prime, F & I), including workshops, VOD's, WebEx's, as well as on the job dealership consulting and coaching inside the dealerships, national sales rally, regional meetings and GMCC events (i e auto shows, rally's)
    • Supports the team efforts in formulating training programs, and schedules based on knowledge of identified dealer training needs and company objectives
    • Track results after training to determine impact; provide feedback to management

    Interact with other business units and training department personnel to ensure consistency in materials for both internal and external content (20%)

    • Works to stay current on relative business unit updates and initiatives, both GMF and GMCL relative to field and dealership personnel
    • Stay abreast of the training being delivered and developed in the US to determine where benefit can be derived in Canada from a synergies perspective

    Stays current and educated on trends, innovations, and applications within the auto industry (20%)

    • Contribute in best practices circulation and additional communication as needed for departmental success
    • Commits to personal and professional development

    Miscellaneous (10%)

    • Performs other related duties and handles various projects as needed


    AVP Training - CDN Dealer Services Canada



    • Strong working knowledge of the sales and F&I processes and operations within franchise dealerships
    • Extensive knowledge in automobile leasing products and the ability to present leasing in all presentation scenarios
    • Strong working knowledge in retail automotive financing specifically the non-prime segment
    • Extensive knowledge in the income development processes utilized in dealerships today and the ability to translate that into content and effectively deliver the process
    • Working knowledge of various dealer management systems and software
    • Clearly defined knowledge of the various decision makers and the correct approach for each selling scenario
    • Strong working knowledge of automotive finance industry
    • Solid knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design principles
    • Knowledge of the fixed operations of a dealership and how lender and finance products impact the profitability of a dealership
    • Understanding of pricing models for various in-dealership training and the ability to formulate the value add proposition
    • Required to command a presence in a large group of people and hold their interests for long periods of time
    • Strong ability to read the audience and manage situations based on read of audience and challenging participants of programs. This can occur frequently in environments with multiple attendees from different Dealerships with various levels of experience


    • High school diploma required
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred


    • Minimum 5 years of dealership and auto finance industry experience preferred
    • Minimum 3 years of training/facilitation experience preferred
    • Minimum 3 years of content development and project management experience preferred
    • Minimum 3 year of supervisory or leadership experience preferred


    • Frequent travel to locations
