  • Overview

    The Manager Commercial Lending – CAN CLS is responsible for developing the infrastructure for commercial lending to automotive dealerships, including wholesale floor plan, construction and permanent real estate loans, capital loans, revolving lines of credit, and equipment loans. Researches and recommends lending guidelines, programs, pricing strategies, and operating efficiencies. Utilize various internal reports, monthly dealership operating statements and floorplan audit results to assess potential risk issues and develops appropriate steps to mitigate GM Financial's loss potential. This team member will provide guidance and strategy for meeting department objectives and to the commercial lending analysts. Additionally, this position will contribute to building brand value and achieving enduring profitable growth.

    Responsibilities

    Credit Management (35%)

    • Manages the Canadian commercial credit underwriting, loan documentation, program design, pricing, PPSA/RPMRR, insurance, and system requirements for Canada
    • Reports activity and statistics to senior management
    • Manages competitive intelligence for pricing and product features
    • Integrates new financing programs into organization (systems, dealers, sales, marketing, dealer support
    • Develops and implements strategies to deploy new products in new markets
    • Develops and implements strategy for field sales support; primary contact for new loan requests


    Risk Management (35%)

    • Monitors portfolio performance
    • Review dealership financial statements with portfolio analysts
    • Review inventory control Canadian audits with unsatisfactory results or exceptions
    • Reports activity and statistics to senior management
    • Reviews and makes adjustment to policies and procedures as necessary to minimize risk of loss to the company


    Central point of contact for all internal and external customer commercial lending training and coaching (20%)

    • Effectively correspond with dealers, management, and peers
    • Provide customer service level support on dealers inquiry on GM Financial wholesale system, products and policies
    • Effectively communicates any dealer risk or competitive threats to CLS leadership


    Miscellaneous (10%)

    • Stays abreast of federal and provincial laws and accounting guidelines, in order to ensure dealer's compliance with related guidelines
    • Reviews and makes adjustment to policies and procedures as necessary to minimize risk of loss to the company
    • Take ownership in the development of plans that facilitate the successful execution of corporate strategies
    • Review activities, costs, and forecast data and make recommendations to support progress toward stated goals and objectives
    • Negotiate and structure contract terms for Dealers
    • Perform other duties as assigned

     

    Qualifications

    Knowledge

    • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
    • Demonstrated acuity with written documents and detail
    • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data
    • Good verbal and written communication skills
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization
    • Good organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
    • Ability to work independently and on a team on multiple projects
    • Ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously
    • Ability to interface with all levels of automotive dealership management
    • Bilingual (French) is an asset

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Marketing required
    • Master's degree preferred

    Experience

    • Three or more years of directly related professional level experience in an automotive commercial lending environment, including experience in creating and presenting ideas to executive management
    • Two or more years in a management role, providing leadership, coaching, guidance and training and contributing to staff development preferred
